Wanda in Oz, part 1

Wanda's travels continue.
She made it all way from hanging out with John and Björn in Sweden high up North to the Land Doiwn Under.
Once in Australia Marianne (@mazpow) manages to get Wanda an acting career. And bird seeds to eat.
In her first role Wanda convincingly plays a lonely bear called Ellie who falls in the river.
Then, when she has crawled out to safety, sitting on a rock, she hears a voice: "Hello Ellie..!"

Wanda celebrated New Years Eve in Stockholm with brudberg and friends. Plenty of good food and wine was served, and the beginning of 2012 everybody had to rest.

The last airline tweet @Krafti_Kit tweeted was "Couth Airlines: Polite and refined while you fly and unwind. #artwiculate #finallyadecentairline". Laura passed away on September 23rd after a long battle with lung disease. So don't be surprised if we start seeing GS posts requesting an Artwiculate version for playing up in the sky. Knowing Laura she'll have everyone knitting & tweeting in no time. Which is fine, especially since there are way cool people in addition to Laura who are dead and could add a lot to Twitter (I'm talking to you, Sir Winston.) Not to mention to Artwiculate (Heller, Heinlein, Kesey...) Laura may be drinking Martinis with these guys right now & explaining to them the 140-character thing. (Oscar goes Wilde about it). And how to RT. Which is great for them - they're with Laura, ergo, in good company. But here at the Salon & Bar Twiculate, we miss her. Mix us a huge pitcher, BartWender. We want to drown in it. Relative proportions for a Long Island Iced Tea

1:Triple Sec (some recipes double this, some leave it out)
2:Gin
2:Tequila
2:White rum
2:Vodka
2:Lemon juice (some recipes halve this, some replace with Sweet and sour mix)
6:Cola
Fine powdered (icing) sugar

Fill a tall glass half full of ice. Add all the ingredients. Stir. Garnish with a slice of lemon and a sprig of mint.

Of course Tom, BartWender's cat, felt it needed some Good Ole Southern Karaoke, so turn up the volume, and sing along!

Wanda signed in as a visitor, then we went to my office. After a few minutes I said, "Let's sneak out of here and go look around." She said, "Yeah, I've never been to Texas before. So we went outside and walked around the grounds. She wanted to sit on a cannon and see what it was like. I helped her up there, but she didn't see what all the fuss was about. "Why do they always have cannons at places like this?" she asked. I really didn't know unless it has to do with phallic contests, but I didn't tell her that. She sat on a bench to catch her breath for a little bit. She thought the Capitol was very pretty, and it is. In fact, it's taller than the one in Washington, DC. We take pride in that here in Texas.

I explained to Wanda that the Texas Capitol is the only Capitol that faces south. It faces that way, so that the Yankees (this is a Civil War and current term) can kiss our ass. Wanda laughed about that a lot.

We saw the rotunda where I took her photo sitting in the center which commemorates the Republic of Texas. Later we went upstairs to see the Senate Chambers. She looked around and said, "Nice place, but so much bad goes on here, I can tell." She's right. They say you don't want to watch sausage being made or watch the Texas Legislature at work. They're both pretty nasty. She took a seat in the back under some photos of recent Senators, but wasn't impressed.

We went down the elevator and ran into a lady I work with named Cheryl. I introduced them. Wanda liked Cheryl and asked for a photo. Before we sneaked back to my office, Wanda wanted to get her picture taken with a bust. No, not that kind of bust, a copper statue thing, you know. Anyway, she picked out this guy with glasses that was a Senator in the Texas Legislature for like 40 years. I told her that lots of dirty money probably crossed his palm.

After work we went home in rush hour traffic. We got home and met Zoe a little girl that Mrs. Arroyos was babysitting for the evening. We all went out to Que Pasa for some great Mexican Food as only you can get it in Texas. Don't tell anyone, but the Mexican food is better in Texas than it is in Mexico. I know, I've had both many times.

2. Wanda makes friends with Summer & Raleigh, two RagaMuffin kittens who enjoyed her company very much.

3. As she goes out with Mr. Moose, Wanda dons fashionable pearls.

4. She loved the kittens so much, she made friends with Rhapsody's new litter.

5. Little Rodeo, the cow kitty, took a special liking to Wanda. She was like a big sister to him.

6. Wanda and Patriotic Rabbit have a fabulous time celebrating the 4th of July.

We'll miss Wanda here in San Jose, but we know she'll have a great time visiting with Laura up in Portland.

What a blast we've had these last few days, Wanda & I. Alas for me, Wanda will soon be on her way. Her itinerary is almost all worked out and we'll post it here within a few days. Right now it's looking like I'll be dropping her off to Max at TJ (just a couple of hours by car from me) & after I pick her back up & she's off to tour the States with a short sojourn in Canada and then she'll be off to Brazil, followed by Europe, India, Japan and Australia!

ONE guess whose idea was this! Nope. Wrong! It is... dmriver's! Oh, yes! It all started a couple of weeks ago with a few DMs that went like this:

"Silia I've had an idea that might be silly, but I quite like. We could have an artwiculate bear (teddy bear) that travels between artwits and get's photographed where people live, could have a series at the Salon? Would that be fun? Probably have a log book to travel too where people enter messages, what do you think?"

ONE guess what Silia thought! Yeap. You're right! From then on it's been a team effort to outfit Wanda (bohemian chic), help her pack (that's her suitcase in the picture) & get her trip started in California.

Here's in David's words his vision for Wanda's circumambulating:

Bear Manifesto (David's rough notes, when finalised these will be in the cover of Wanda's travel log)

1. Treat Wanda well, she has travelled far and has a long way to go.

2. Wanda will travel around any artwiculators that would like a visit within a country before she moves on to another country (she doesn't want anyone to feel left out).

3. Whoever agrees to a visit is then responsible for sending her on to the next person.

4. Send Wanda on as soon as possible, probably 5 days maximum stay. (Her first stay with Silia is longer because they're getting her ready for her trip).

5. Postal addresses must be kept confidential (not passed on to anyone for any reason).

6. Take one or more photos or a video of Wanda somewhere that is important to you and send it to the Salon with a description of where she is. Local icons would be good, or a day in the life of artwiculato X.

7. Wanda's travel log book must be filled in: date, name/twitter name, location (but not your address), WOTD for that date, your own favourite entry to artwiculate for the day, personal messages to the rest of the crowd. Please keep it clean, this is a teddy bear remember, children will want to see in her logbook. (Editor's Note: He's talking to you, Max. ;-).
